Getting Started

Just a short post to get things going - and explain to myself why I'm starting a blog.  Basically, I just want to have a place to put down my thoughts about my family, my friends, my job, and just life in general.  Nothing fancy, at least at first.

A little about myself - I'm a 41-year old dad of two great kids, a 12-year old girl and an 11-year old boy.  They both have their moments, but I wouldn't give them up for the world.  Things didn't work out between me and their mom, though, and we have been divorced for several years now (more on that later).  However, I've since gotten remarried to a wonderful girl who I first knew in college years ago and was lucky enough to find again after things started going downhill between me and the kids' mom.  I'm an engineer by profession - I'm not rich and probably never will be, but my wife and I make enough to where we have a comfortable life.  My kids live primarily with their mom but she and I have joint custody and the kids spend at least a couple of nights with me every week.  Plus, I live close enough to them to where I get to see them pretty much every day.  I also actively participate in my son's Cub Scout pack.

Like I said above, I don't really have any specific goals for this blog, other than just to air my views on my life and society in general.  I'll try to post on a daily basis, and I'm sure the subjects of my posts will vary considerably.  I've got a lot to say.  Perhaps over time, this blog will become more focused.  Who can tell?

About the title of this blog - basically, while my life to the outside obersever will probably seem quite ordinary, I know better.  My life is extraordinary, and I wouldn't trade places with anyone else in the world.  Not to say that there aren't a few things I wouldn't have done differently, but overall I'm lucky and blessed and I know it.

Well, that's all I've got to say for today.  The ranting will start next post.
